Very often, in order to bring about stillness we have to be tirelessly active in the outer world. You might suppose this would agitate the mind. It will not, if it is the dharma.

When you meditate you can stand back from your desire. When you silence the mind and there is stillness, only then can you tell if a desire is dharma.

When you sit with an enlightened teacher physically, the teacher moves in and out of different states of mind. That is how you learn to do it yourself.

The person who gives selflessly in this lifetime immediately goes into a better state of mind. That is instant karma.

The state of mind that you are in causes you to act in a certain way. Your actions will bear results. The ultimate result of all karmas and actions is state of mind. You are your state of mind.

Karma is engendered by states of mind. If you are in a happy state of mind, that will engender one kind of karma. If you are in an unhappy state of mind, that will engender another kind of karma.

You can be in a state of mind for a few seconds and forget that you were ever in any other state of mind. That's what we mean by illusion.

I don't think you see your minds. I think you see your thoughts; you see your desires; you see your relatives, friends, lovers, enemies. I don't think you see your mind. You think of the mind as the clutter.

Life isn't complicated. The reason it appears complicated to you is because you are in a very distorted state of mind. That's the basic premise of Buddhism - that you're in a very distorted state of mind.

None of this matters a bit. Yet, of course, it matters at that moment. So we try to be mindful of the moment; but it's fleeting.

Just see beauty as you walk around through your day. Feel things. Unhook from your thoughts and all the busy things you are doing. Start to look at life. This is mindfulness.

Look at how beautiful life is, and just keep looking until you see it. You don't see what is in front of you because you're so distracted by your thoughts.

Think about what is in front of you, if you must think.

Our actions and experiences will direct us. In other words, we will be guided by the inherent emptiness of the things we choose to interact with.

When you do something half-heartedly, you don't get much of a result. When you do it fully, you get a great result.
